Israel backs Georgia in Caspian Oil Pipeline Battle with Russia
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report
August 8, 2008
Georgian tanks and infantry, aided by Israeli military advisers, captured the capital of breakaway South Ossetia, Tskhinvali, early Friday, Aug. 8, bringing the Georgian-Russian conflict over the province to a military climax.
Russian prime minister Vladimir Putin threatened a “military response.”
Former Soviet Georgia called up its military reserves after Russian warplanes bombed its new positions in the renegade province.
In Moscow’s first response to the fall of Tskhinvali, president Dimitry Medvedev ordered the Russian army to prepare for a national emergency after calling the UN Security Council into emergency session early Friday.
Reinforcements were rushed to the Russian “peacekeeping force” present in the region to support the separatists.
Georgian tanks entered the capital after heavy overnight heavy aerial strikes, in which dozens of people were killed.
Lado Gurgenidze, Georgia's prime minister, said on Friday that Georgia will continue its military operation in South Ossetia until a "durable peace" is reached. "As soon as a durable peace takes hold we need to move forward with dialogue and peaceful negotiations."
DEBKAfile’s geopolitical experts note that on the surface level, the Russians are backing the separatists of S. Ossetia and neighboring Abkhazia as payback for the strengthening of American influence in tiny Georgia and its 4.5 million inhabitants. However, more immediately, the conflict has been sparked by the race for control over the pipelines carrying oil and gas out of the Caspian region.
The Russians may just bear with the pro-US Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili’s ambition to bring his country into NATO. But they draw a heavy line against his plans and those of Western oil companies, including Israeli firms, to route the oil routes from Azerbaijan and the gas lines from Turkmenistan, which transit Georgia, through Turkey instead of hooking them up to Russian pipelines.
Saakashvili need only back away from this plan for Moscow to ditch the two provinces’ revolt against Tbilisi. As long as he sticks to his guns, South Ossetia and Abkhazia will wage separatist wars.
DEBKAfile discloses Israel’s interest in the conflict from its exclusive military sources:
Jerusalem owns a strong interest in Caspian oil and gas pipelines reach the Turkish terminal port of Ceyhan, rather than the Russian network. Intense negotiations are afoot between Israel Turkey, Georgia, Turkmenistan and Azarbaijan for pipelines to reach Turkey and thence to Israel’s oil terminal at Ashkelon and on to its Red Sea port of Eilat. From there, supertankers can carry the gas and oil to the Far East through the Indian Ocean.
Aware of Moscow’s sensitivity on the oil question, Israel offered Russia a stake in the project but was rejected.
Last year, the Georgian president commissioned from private Israeli security firms several hundred military advisers, estimated at up to 1,000, to train the Georgian armed forces in commando, air, sea, armored and artillery combat tactics. They also offer instruction on military intelligence and security for the central regime. Tbilisi also purchased weapons, intelligence and electronic warfare systems from Israel.
These advisers were undoubtedly deeply involved in the Georgian army’s preparations to conquer the South Ossetian capital Friday.
In recent weeks, Moscow has repeatedly demanded that Jerusalem halt its military assistance to Georgia, finally threatening a crisis in bilateral relations. Israel responded by saying that the only assistance rendered Tbilisi was “defensive.”
This has not gone down well in the Kremlin. Therefore, as the military crisis intensifies in South Ossetia, Moscow may be expected to punish Israel for its intervention.

Israel, well, there's a suprise.
Not satisfied with murdering Palestinians they now want to kill Russians. No wonder they need to keep ramming Hitler down peoples throats. Its the only diversionary tactic they've got to stop the world seeing how evil they are.
I think it was David Irving that said, "the jews are to blame for ALL the wars !"
As an History grad, the jews have been busy throughout history.
To them, nothing else matters.
No, the jews are really nice people who love all non jewish people.
OK, my mate called his wife a shicksa, but come one !
"As an History grad, the jews have been busy throughout history."
I look at the LU site sometimes, and the one thing that always grabs me, is they are busy talking about a man who died 65yrs ago, but never discuss Mugabe, and the terror he causes in the here and now. So, I have to agree with you, the Jews have a lot of power if they can divert attention away from todays terror to that of 65yrs ago.
Actually it's 'Ivan the proscribed yid from Bradford' !
I am quite amused to see various people getting into 'Zionist conspiracies' and complaining Georgia has Israeli military advisers. It is not an offence for a sovereign nation to use military advisers from any other country in the world that it wishes to. Georgia is a small country, with a small population surrounded by enemies. In such a situation they probably find Israel which is in a similar situation has advisers with very relevant military experience and a very good track record. What other country should the Georgians use for advisory teams ? French teams . . er the only advice the French could give is how to raise a white flag.
One thing that has been missed in all the coverage of this incident. Who are the South Ossettians ? The Russians are describing them as Russian Nationals who have been maltreated by nasty Georgia. The Russians have not only recognised their breakaway province but have been issuing them with Russian passports since the early 90's. Guess what, the poor maltreated South Ossettians are Muslims. Georgia is a Christian country. JV Stalin, as all good Russians know, was a Georgian and was a altar boy in his childhood. The Russians are using a group of people who are demographically different from the rest of Georgia to support and cause instability in Georgia. Georgia has committed two offences, being Western oriented - they want to join NATO and the EU (more fool them !) and having oil and gas pipelines passing through their territory which the Russians do not control. It is exactly the same strategy the West used in supporting the 'maltreated Muslims' of Kosovo and attacking Serbia. The Russians have denounced the West's behaviour in Kosovo, support Serbia and have refused to recognise Kosovo but are using the same strategy in South Ossettia.
Are NWNationalists supporting a Muslim uprising aided by Russia against a peaceful Christian country - Georgia ! Would you be supporting Georgia if only they had military advisers from another country, not Israel ?
Clearly there are strategic (oil!)considerations for the Israelis here. But why single out only the Israelis? The Americans are also there in Georgia in personel and in large arms supply. Probably in far more force that the Israelis. I see anti Jew sentiment kicked about all the time - there needs to be some perspective. I really do think hyper-sensitivity to anything Israeli/Jewish/Zionist or whatever is blurring and hiding a true world picture. You could at almost any point in history point to groups and individuals from any countries and build up a robust case to say they were out of control, and out to control the world - or whatever. Yes, especially we British! - but very often the Jews. To find out the truth we need to identify the ones doing the blurring. The Americas may be a good place to start! But I suspect it's supranational and doesn't involve people answerable to governments nor religious persuation. Only money.
"Ivan the Yid" seemed to have his finger on something when he explained about the enclave being Muslim (I had not of course heard this anywhere else). Funny thing, the truth. Just when you think you have it - it starts to fall apart again.
For the moment I'm going to see this as a war about oil and money. Religion and nationalism may be the presented reasons - but that's just to stir up the hatreds to stir up the war.

The creation of the conflict in Georgia is intended to block Russia from materially supporting IRAN during the impending invasion.
Israeli military advisors were involved with the Georgian offensive against South Ossetia {pop 70,000}.
On 14th july Georgian & US troops started a joint military exercise.
The OSSETIANS speak ossetic,an Iranian language. They descend from iranian tribes of eurasia.
They became CHRISTIANS during the early middle ages.
From 1922 was part of the USSR.
Many of them would have Russian passports.Unlike Kosovo, the US will not support an independant South Ossetia.
The Israelis have been sniping at Russia for ages, through their many agencies (especially the BBC)
When Putin passed a bill that forced members of the Russian parliament(Dumas)renounce any "second citizenships" - this made him a marked man!
What nationality were the "Oligarchs" who profited from the collapse of the Soviet Union ?
Lucky Gordon Brown - Up goes the oil and gas prices again.
How nice to be a friend of Israel.

Watch the above video.Georgia seems to be another whore of the neocons.
Clear admission of involvement by Israel.
War in Georgia: The Israeli connection
Intensive Involvement
"For past seven years, Israeli companies have been helping Gerogian army to prepare for war against Russia through arms deals, training of infantry units and security advice"

BTW I have just looked and seen (in Wikipedia) that Debka.com is an Israeli site. A case of Jews criticising their own

So the west is taking on Russia to secure oil for the far east.
Who Israel openly admits is their new ally against ant-semitism.
Which we know to mean anyone who is against their World Order!
Georgian minister: Israel should be proud
"The Israelis should be proud of themselves for the Israeli training and education received by the Georgian soldiers," Georgian Minister Temur Yakobashvili said Saturday.
Yakobashvili is a Jew and is fluent in Hebrew. "We are now in a fight against the great Russia," he said, "and our hope is to receive assistance from the White House, because Georgia cannot survive on its own.
"It's important that the entire world understands that what is happening in Georgia now will affect the entire world order. It's not just Georgia's business, but the entire world's business."
One of the Georgian parliament members did not settle Saturday for the call for American aid, urging Israel to help stop the Russian offensive as well: "We need help from the UN and from our friends, headed by the United States and Israel. Today Georgia is in danger – tomorrow all the democratic countries in the region and in the entire world will be in danger too."
