(NWN does NOT have this list. It is on a website totally unconnected to us.)

I have to say, while I find the views of the BNP and its members repugnant; you are certainly entitled to your privacy. This leak of this list is wrong, no matter what kind of moral spin people will try to put on it.
There's one thing that I have to ask to BNP members; are you more scared that your personal details have been posted, or that you have been exposed as a members of the BNP? Because even if your reason for being scared is has anything to do with the latter, then perhaps you're beginning to realise just how wrong your personal and political beliefs are.

I'm not affliated with any group, but earlier on tonight I personally saw this list in hard copy format being duplicated serveal hundred times and being prepared to be mailed out to serveral "organisations" and also legal organisations ie police, government offices etc. For the purpose of all your members to be exposed/indentified.
I personally don't agree with this act but can confirm the people involved are actually quite liberal but cannot say the same for some of the other organisations mentioned tonight. I have also heard that certain names on the list are being auctioned.

So I just want to comment on some of you who are panicked about lost jobs and other consequences that come from a social perspective. If you believe what the BNP stands for, then how can you be angered that you now have to stand by your beliefs? perhaps it is my ignorance of British politics, but I firmly stand by the positions I've taken on issues facing the United States, and would be completely willing to profess them, even if those around me would attempt to harass or discriminate against me because of it. So I'll end with the question : What good is it to be a 'secret society' trying to gain control of government? If your views are correct, shouldn't you stand by them?

I'd like the party to make a legal case under the DPA 1998 and the Human Rights Act to have all the people on this list protected in some way. It's probably too late now the list is even to be found on WIKILEAKS and Cryptome! It can NEVER be removed from these sites as the owners just ignore any court orders and besides, they are located overseas and use servers in Thailand. The autonomous Trade Union Solidarity is concerned by the hysteria stoked up by sections of the media over the leak of a BNP membership list.
Reports that such members were "living in fear" and that they "faced the sack from their jobs" amount to victimisation.

If peple are trying to remain anonymous about their BNP membership then there are two main factors to consider: Firstly that they are acutely conscious of their membership, that is, that they are inherently aware of the social margins which the BNP occupies, whether they feel genuine unease about this or not. Those who on some conscious or conscious level regret having to use such a political hardline to register their frustrated views, or indeed they recognise that even the more recently sanitised views of the BNP are largely unacceptable within the British community, which as a whole is centrist and has a great degree of public cynicism, particularly toward extremes of politics and religion which are regularly publically ridiculed and satirised. Indeed, the British "keen sense of the ridiculous" may well be present in many active BNP members, and as such they are aware of the third-person perspective of themselves, which is a marginalised stereotype, but which has more than a kernel of truth in typifying their demographic as ignorant and dissillusioned.
Secondly, and quite frankly, the line that most party members will take. Is that they see or sense no great shame or social disjunction with functioning day-to-day alongside their political allegiences other than the fact that they are likely to be targets of threatening, discriminatory (ironic indeed) and violent behaviour. As a result the measure of security that party membership anonimity provides side-steps the "shame" label and gives the convenient impression that the concern is for the safety and social comfort of the families involved. A genuine concern for some, but convenient for most, and essentially part of the rationalisation process behind the recent BNP public clean-up, which has resulted in improved open support and a faintly discernable difference in perceptions of the party's public acceptability.
All in all, the unshakeable right to anonymous party membership should be maintained, but only on the thin premise of security measures. Most members of the public will not, for example, be overly concerned to hear that Data Protection law does not allow for a likely prosecution of the individual who stole the information and placed it in the public domain.

While i do not condone some of the so called racist policies of the BNP I feel very sorry for the people involved.
It has been rumoured that the names of peoples children are in this list, if this is true its a great miscarriage of justice. Even if the parents are racist their children may be completely the opposite. Some children may not even know their parents are members.
I also believe that if the labour government did more to support the white british, by truely having equal oppourtunities there would be no such thing as the BNP.
Such cases as some companies only recruiting ethnic minorities to increase the numbers rightfully anger many white British.
The fairer way would be to not question ethnicity or religion on an application for a job, in theory the best person would be successful, without question to their ethnicity or beliefs.

I wouldn't be too sure. Although I am not a member of the BNP nor do I believe in it's politics, I know of one member. I also know he has been to prison for having child pornography on his computer. Just for the record, I'm not into that either.
Today I had to work out of a different office and had to endure Radio 2. It was strange because after the BNP spokesman said the publishing of this list was outrageous and acknowledged that it was ironic that they were using the european human rights act as their defence as to why it should not be published, they then wheeled in "Red" Ken Livingstone who also agreed! I do agree with both of them that the publishing of this list is out of order. Centuries of govornments not run by the BNP have created legislation which allows the BNP to exist as a legitimate party.
For those of you who work for the Police, the prison service and other organisations where it is not allowed to be a member, you are just daft. No need for stronger terms of abuse like some of the other posts - just daft. You have broken the terms of your contract by joining and because of this they can dismiss you for gross misconduct. If you believe in the views of the BNP then fine. As a british citizen; that is your right. Just vote for them when the time comes! I'm not a member of the party I vote for.

I'll be honest and say that whilst Britain has well and truly gone down the shitter because of the way in which immigration has been wildly mishandled and the 'minorities' now seem to get the majority of help, why is it that membership of a political party could cost people their job?
Surely this constitutes a breach of privacy? Since when has support for an officially recognised party been a criminal offence?
I don't support the BNP because some of the views are a little too far out to the right for me but I think that if anyone is disciplined in any way for being a member of a political party, it should be challenged to the highest courts.
If Sinn Fein and convicted terrorists and murders can hold seats at the head of the Northern Irish Assembly, then a policman, soldier, fireman, doctor or nurse should be able to choose who the heck they support politically as long as those views are not reflected OR directed towards people they may come into contact in work.
