Watchdog begins BNP accounts probe

The Electoral Commission has launched an investigation into the accounting records of the British National Party, it was announced today.

The commission, which is the independent party finance watchdog, said it had began the probe into the party's 2008 statement of accounts.

This follows concerns raised about its "adequacy" by the independent auditor's report that accompanied it.

But the fact that an investigation had been launched did not mean there should be assumptions made over any alleged breaches, the commission stressed.

In January this year the commission began a review following the concerns raised, and this has now developed into the investigation announced today.

It follows comments by the registered auditors, Silver & Co, that the financial statements submitted did not "give a true and fair view of the state of the party's affairs at December 31, 2008".

The auditors went on: "In our opinion it cannot be said that the accounts comply with the requirements of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000, as adequate records have not been made available."

A statement released by the commission said: "In January 2010 the Electoral Commission, the independent party finance watchdog, began a case review following concerns raised in the independent auditor's opinion about the adequacy of the 2008 statement of accounts of the British National Party.

"The case has now become an investigation.

"However, it is important to note - particularly during an election period - that no conclusion has been reached and therefore no assumption should be made as to whether a breach of the rules has occurred."

NWN: How many times have the BNP got to 'screw up' the accounts, resulting in fines that the members have to pay ? Perhaps if the BNP spent more than the 5% on elections, rather than on whatever they are doing with members money, they wouldn't be in such a 'fine mess' ?

And how many times have we and others warned BNP members, about Griffins 'riding roughshod' over Party monies, before they will listen ?

Gri££in couldn't care a damn, he is lazy and incompetent, as are most of his lieutenants, in fact some are downright stupid, that what he likes, nodding donkeys. This latest development will probably result in yet another hefty fine, but it's the membership that pays each time fro Gri££in's cock ups. I wonder what will happen now that Fat Boy Thick Hannam is in charge? In fact he isn't, it's Dodgy Dowson rules over our accounts now.

“The BNP is committed to financial transparency,” said Mr Hannam

This has just ben put on the BNP website, what an utter joke, Hannam can't even add up and do simple book keeping. Dowson cooks the BNP account books now.

"The Electoral Commission’s (EC) announcement that there is to be an “investigation” into the British National Party’s 2008 accounts is an obvious politically motivated attack on the party "

No I don't think it's political when the 2008 accounts were incomplete and what we did see was a top heavy party with people being paid large salaries and expenses, while little was spend on campaigning.

I've been telling people for years that Griffin was put there to destroy the BNP.

gri££in & dowson are a pair of crooks simple as that. when will people wake up and see?

Dowson is bragging that the BNP is now turning over £1.5m.

That's great, but when you consider that the vast majority of party staff are now paid by the EU and three of those that were not have recently been sacked, it does raise the question of where the fuck they are spending this £1.5m.

One thing's for sure, It isn't on campaigning.

Maybe a large chunk of it is paying for Gri££in and Dow$on to employ their families in the Belfast Bunker and shore up their many other business interests.

About time too. Gri££in has got away with dubious accounting practices for far too long. No doubt his brainwashed acolytes will carry on believing for a little while longer, but after the votes are counted, there will be a great reckoning in a small room . . .

I hope Dowson and Gri££in go to jail. Been told that they have brought in the fraud squad to investigate bnp accounts over the past 5 years.

It doesn't matter what excuse Griffin comes up with - the membership seem prepared to beleve anything he says....its scary.
