BNP leader Nick Griffin wants to change the party's constitution
The British National Party has set a date for an extraordinary general meeting on scrapping its whites-only membership rule, a court has been told.
The party has been ordered to change its rules by 28 January after they were found to break upcoming equality laws.
Under its constitution it must hold an EGM first. Previous planned meetings had been postponed but it will be held on 14 February at a secret location.
Leader Nick Griffin is present at the hearing at Central London County Court.
Mr Griffin has urged party members to back the changes, saying it must "adapt or die".
We are pledged to the continued creation, fostering, maintenance and existence of the unity and of the integrity of the Indigenous British
Proposed BNP constitution
BNP members are being asked to vote on a new constitution changing the membership criteria so that every member is "indigenous British by descent or origin" or "of any other descent or origin" and "bona fide supports and agrees with each of the Principles of the Party".
The party's new statement of principles includes: "We are pledged to the continued creation, fostering, maintenance and existence of the unity and of the integrity of the Indigenous British and of the government of... our 'British Homeland'."
It also states that the party is "implacably opposed to the promotion by any means of any form of integration or assimilation of any indigenous people, including the Indigenous British, which is likely to deprive such people of their integrity as a distinct people or the distinctiveness of their cultural values or of their ethnic or national identities or characteristics".
The Equalities and Human Rights Commission, which brought the action against the party, argued its constitution was unlawful because it restricted membership to particular ethnic groups.
The BNP was forced to freeze membership applications until the changes have been made.
