Pasted below is a report from the Manchester Evening News on Tameside hospital in Greater Manchester. The online article can be found here:
http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/health/s/224/224456_mp_demands_inquiry_at_shamed_hospital.html

-----------------------------------
MP demands inquiry at shamed hospital

30/ 9/2006

AN MP has demanded an independent investigation into the problems at Tameside General Hospital.

Ashton-under-Lyne MP David Heyes made the call after coroner John Pollard slammed Tameside General in Ashton following four inquests in one afternoon relating to deaths there.

Mr Pollard branded Tameside "despicable and chaotic" during the inquests, which included the death of RAF veteran Watkin Davies, 84, who was left with "filthy" open wounds and later died in part due to an MRSA infection.

Other examples included 75-year-old Raymond Lees being left without food for days and staff losing the medical notes of 75-year-old Hilda Douglas while her medication was trampled on the floor.

Mr Heyes said: "I know coroner John Pollard very well and have a lot of respect for him. He wouldn't have said what he said without thinking very carefully about it, so we need to take his comments very seriously.

Investigation

"I am not willing to defend the hospital. What has happened is appalling and the coroner's words are entirely right. People should expect far better than this when they go to their local hospital."

He said he had written to health minister Andy Burnham demanding an independent investigation.

"I have heard the hospital plans to hold an internal investigation and that's just not good enough," said Mr Heyes. Fellow Tameside MP Andrew Gwynne, member for Denton and Reddish, said: "I am very concerned about the issues raised and will be speaking directly to people at the hospital.

"We need to give the hospital a chance to explain their side of things."

Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust (PCT) said it was taking the coroner's concerns seriously.

A spokesman said: "As is the case with the PCT, and any other NHS trust, the hospital is continually monitored by the Healthcare Commission and where there are issues that arise which may result in potential problems, we work closely together to address these immediately."
-----------------------------------
In addition I know of one individual who has had a bungled operation at Tameside.
Manchester Royal Infirmary is said by many who have visted/stayed there to be filthy and a potential health risk.
My feelings are that the government simply does not care. It wants the NHS wound down and private madicine introduced.
Richard ChadfieldAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
